Duration: Students will have 6 months in which to complete all aspects of the course - theory and practical.3 month extensions (maximum of 3) are available for a set fee.

Valid for: 3 years.
Course Accreditation: The course is nationally recognised and meets all AQTF requirements. Students can complete the course at 16 years of age.

Use swimming rescue techniques to reach and assist a person in the water:

Complete a ten metre swim and then complete one non-contact tow, towing the rescued person for at least ten metres, and remove the person from the water without assistance from another person

Complete a ten metre swim and then complete one contact tow, towing the rescued person for at least ten metres, and remove the person from the water with assistance from one other person
Assessments will comprise of:
Perform Water Rescues
Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist with the answers).
Assessment Task 2 – Video Assessments – students must video and upload footage of themselves demonstrating the various rescue techniques (video resources are available to demonstrate the required techniques).
Teach Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills, Teach Water Safety and Survival Skills, Plan Swimming Lessons and Teach Swimming Strokes
Assessment Task 1 – Questions and Answers (a student resource is available to assist learners with the questions).
Assessment Task 2 – For this assessment the student is required to view 8 videos (from our Worldwide Swim Library) and answer a series of questions at the end of each section. Upon successful completion of each of the 8 videos, you will receive a certificate. Each of the 8 certificates must be uploaded to the LMS student portal.
Assessment Task 3 – Lesson Planning – the student is required to plan and document 6 lesson plans. There are two progressive lesson plans for each of the following topics – Teach Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills, Teach Water Safety and Survival Skills, Teach Swimming Strokes
Assessment Task 4 - Practical teaching and reflections – the student is required to teach (under supervision) 9 pre-designed lesson plans that individually or cumulatively incorporate all the key requirements for each unit of competence. At the completion of each session, the student must complete the written reflections and modifications component of this assessment task. The student must also upload a signed Supervisor checklist for each unit of competence at the completion of their practical teaching.
Assessment Task 5 – Video Assessments: If the student’s supervisor has a current Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment OR the Assessor skill set (TAESS00011) AND a current Swimming and Water Safety Instructor qualification, the student is not required to complete video assessments. The student MUST upload copies of their supervisor’s qualifications to the LMS, as evidence. If the student’s supervisor does not hold a current Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment OR the Assessor skill set (TAESS00011), the student must video and upload footage of themselves teaching three 30-minute classes. One class for Teach Water Familiarisation, Buoyancy and Mobility Skills, one class for Teach Water Safety and Survival Skills and one class for Teach Swimming Strokes. These videos must include all the key requirements for each unit of competence.
